It was a special moment for 13-year-old Edyn Fawcett of Brunswick Heads, who is being treated for a tumour on the brain, when she recently met the seven-times women's world surfing champion, Layne Beachley.

The meeting was arranged by local surfing coach Steve Foreman as part of an overall community effort aimed at easing the family's financial burden for ongoing treatment.

Steve, who taught Edyn to surf during the early stages of her treatment, organised a surf-related raffle on behalf of the Brunswick Heads Public School with a signed Mick Fanning surfboard as a major prize.

Layne donated a signed, framed and mounted 'Beachley Classic' contest vest which was bought by Craig Watson from the Courthouse Hotel at Mullumbimby, where it is now displayed.
