Socceroos v Thailand: Follow live World Cup qualifier

THE Socceroos face Thailand in a do-or-die World Cup qualifier from 8pm AEST.

Australia are currently third in Group B of Asia World Cup qualifying, but will only automatically earn a spot for the Russia tournament if they finish second. Japan has already secured first spot in Group B.

The Socceroos are level on 16 points with second-placed Saudi Arabia, but Australia's goal difference is +4 compared with the Saudis' +6. If both teams finish on the same points, then goal difference will determine second place.

That means Australia will want to score as many possible against Thailand before Saudi Arabia host Japan from 3:30am AEST. The Socceroos won't know if they've finished second until after the Saudis' clash.

If the Socceroos finish third, then they will enter a series of play-off rounds to vie for a World Cup spot.
