Socceroos move up FIFA rankings

FOOTBALL: Australia has risen five places on the latest FIFA rankings.

The Socceroos are up to 50th after drawing with Iraq and beating the United Arab Emirates in World Cup qualifiers.

Ange Postecoglou's team is still behind Iran (28th), Korea Republic (43rd) and Japan (44th) in the Asian confederation.

Brazil is back on top of the rankings for the first time in seven years, taking over from South American rival Argentina after becoming the first team to qualify for the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

Argentina is second on the list with world champion Germany third, followed by Chile and Colombia in a South American-dominated top five.

Switzerland enters the top 10, up to ninth, with former No.1 Spain clinging on in 10th.
