Snow 'possible' in next 24 hours: Higgins Storm Chasing

SNOW is possible in the Granite Belt as far north as Stanthorpe in the next 24 hours with the apparent temperature to plummet to minus 15 degrees.

Higgins Storm Chasing has updated its predictions for a "significant cold cored upper low" that will swept across the region tonight.

They are predicting that snow is possible while sleet is likely.

Snow is more likely in northern New South Wales above 1200 metres in the Guyra-Ben Lomond areas from 10pm today until 4pm tomorrow.

"A snow / sleet dusting is possible above 1000 meters and further North at Mt Mckenzie near Tenterfield," according to Higgins.

"Drizzle is also likely below 1000 metres on the Western side of the ranges of the Northern Tablelands and Granite Belt.

"Strong to gusty westerly winds expected through the region with apparent temps falling to as low as -15c."
