Amarita named Bangalow Showgirl for second time in 19 years
THE last time Amrita Singh won a Bangalow Showgirl title she was just three years old.
Nearly two decades later, the 22-year-old has been crowned the 2014 Bangalow Showgirl.
Having graduated from the junior category, Ms Singh was one of six contestants who took part in this year's event.
Ms Singh said her family's involvement in agriculture in the region was a big motivator for entering the competition.
"My dad is heavily involved in the show," she said. "He brings in chickens, bananas and eggs.
"My mum and dad have been bringing me to the show ever since I was little."
The Showgirl winner said Bangalow was a region she was passionate about and wanted to promote.
"I spoke about the town and about how much I love living in the area," she said. "It's very peaceful, I grew up here, I went to school here, I've got all my friends and family here.
"It's such a good place to grow up."
Ms Singh said her family owned several farms, piggeries, banana plantations and dairy properties in Bangalow, helping to give her a strong foundation in agriculture.
Ms Singh will now go on to compete in the next stage of showgirl competitions in Yamba.
