Shai Shriki performs his world music tomorrow
MUSICIAN Shai Shriki will be collecting music performances across the globe to then mix them in Byron Bay into his next release.
Shriki is preparing to release a new album of original material early next year, songs that he will be performing tomorrow in Mullumbimby.
The musician explained he is excited to share the new songs with local audiences.
"Most of the songs are ready and in pre-production," he said.
"Some of them are already recorded, I still have a few to record, but they are all ready.
"I'll be performing songs solo, really bare in their natural form, and then in the album they will have more instrumentation, with help from musicians that are scattered all over the world."
Shai Shriki will be recording the basis of the songs locally, then he will embark on a world trip around the US, the Middle East and Australia where he will perform, but he will also record himself musicians playing his music using specific ethnic instruments that he will them mix into the album.
"At the moment I am playing most of the instruments in the album, but after the tour I will be replacing some of it with the recordings I will be gathering in Israel, Australia en the US," he said.
"I play World music with very specific instrumentation that does not exist here".
Shriki grew up in the Middle East (Israel) to a Jewish Moroccan musical family.
Living in Byron Bay now, Shai Shriki has developed his own style of World Music, incluing songs from Spain and Eastern Europe.
At the Drill Hall Theatre, 2 Jubilee Ave, Mullumbimby, tomorrow Friday from 7pm. $22.
