FORMER Sunshine Coast girl Carly Brown is bringing sensitivity back to swimwear.
Appreciating that women come in all shapes and sizes, and that Queensland sun can be brutal on skin, the Brisbane entrepreneur has designed a clever but chic one piece that is now sold in 38 countries.
Even before Une Piece - French for one piece - launched locally in December last year, there were more than 500 women on the waitlist.
"Often women are marketed to in a really negative way, they are preyed on for their insecurities," the 35-year-old mother of one said.
"I like to flip that on its head and instil confidence, because when you're in your groove, you do feel amazing."
Billed as the world's sexiest "rashie", a Une Piece swimsuit is made with 28 pieces of Italian UPF50+ rated fabric that flatter and support the female shape.
After the brand's May launch in the UK, Ms Brown began an Instagram campaign to "celebrate the diversity of beauty and body shape".
"We have hundreds of women around the world telling us they feel fantastic, whether they're a size 16 in South Africa or a size 6 in Sweden," she said.
"It is really satisfying to cut through a side of the fashion industry that can make many women feel insecure."
Ms Brown, who grew up on the Sunshine Coast and studied a Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Communication at QUT, spent several years in London as head of brand marketing for Revlon Cosmetics.
She is putting the finishing touches on a second range and is in negotiations with major stockists.
