THE search has intensified for a young Sydney businessman missing in the Blue Mountains since Tuesday.

Gary Tweddle, 23, was last seen leaving the Fairmont Resort at Leura, where he had been staying for a conference.

Friends told police he appeared to be in good spirits.

During a phone call to a friend just after midnight on Tuesday, Mr Tweddle said he was in bushland near a main road.

His phone is believed to have run out of battery power.

As weather conditions deteriorated on Friday ahead of a wet weekend, more than 75 emergency rescue staff were focussing their search in bushland along Sublime Point Rd.

Mr Tweddle is described as being about 165-170cm tall with a medium build, brown eyes and short brown hair.

He was wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and checked shirt.

Police are keen to speak with anyone who may have seen Mr Tweddle on Tuesday morning so the search area can be narrowed down.

Anyone with information is urged to phone 000.
