Schwarzer keeps clean sheet
FOOTBALL: Less than 24 hours after being "rested" from the Socceroos squad for coming friendlies against France and Canada, Mark Schwarzer starred for Chelsea in its Capital One Cup triumph at League One outfit Swindon Town.
Schwarzer kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 victory at the County Ground on his competitive debut for the Blues. The Australian custodian was one of 10 changes made by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho from the EPL win over Fulham on the weekend. Fernando Torres was on target with a tap-in and set up Ramires for a second as Chelsea moved into round four.
On a mainly good night for EPL sides, Manchester City beat Wigan Athletic 5-0, Tottenham won 4-0 at Aston Villa and there also were wins for Southampton, Hull, Southampton, Norwich and West Ham.
Everton was beaten for the first time this season, 2-1 at Fulham, while there was some respite for managerless Sunderland which beat Peterborough 2-0. Championship sides Leicester City and Burnley made it through with wins over Derby County and Nottingham Forest respectively.
