Scans reveal Riewoldt knee injury not serious

THE AFL world has breathed a collective sigh of relief, with news St Kilda superstar Nick Riewoldt has escaped a serious knee injury.

The 34-year-old forward appeared to hyper-extend his right knee with six minutes remaining in Saturday night's 30-point loss to Melbourne and was stretchered from Etihad Stadium.

Riewoldt said yesterday that, while still sore, he had avoided an ACL rupture.

"It feels a little bit stiff and a little bit sore but compared to what it could have been, it is a good result," he told AFL GameDay.

"I was pretty confident that I had done my ACL. Once we got in the rooms, they (the doctors) were able to assies it as much as they can. They are pretty confident that structurally it is okay."

Riewoldt was best-afield for the beaten Saints, kicking four goals.
