Sale of Big Top Shopping Centre on the cards
JUST months after undergoing a $20 million makeover, Maroochydore's Big Top shopping centre appears to be on the verge of being sold.
The complex's owner, Reed Property Group, has confirmed it is in "exclusive and confidential discussions" over the sale of the property and hoped to make an announcement within weeks.
First built in 1973, Big Top was the Sunshine Coast's premier shopping centre but had fallen on hard times before the makeover.
The project included the launch of Big Top Market Fresh - more than 100 fresh produce stalls in a marketplace area - as well as a rejuvenated Ocean St entertainment precinct.
The buildings iconic giant sails were also replaced as part of the work.
"Since launching the revitalised Big Top Market Fresh precinct, Reed Property Group has fielded strong interest from interstate and international investors interested in the project," the company spokesman said.
"With the huge success of the popular Ocean St dining and entertainment precinct and with 77% of the total floor area under the Big Top already leased, we believe the interest from investors supports the company's vision for the centre and shows confidence in the retail market on the Sunshine Coast."
