Driver flees crash scene

POLICE are investigating an incident where a motorist fled the scene of a crash, near Grafton, prompting a police chase down the Pacific Highway.

The accident happened at Clarenza on Sunday.

A Mitsubishi Magna collided with another sedan on Centenary Drive about 3.40pm.

Police were told a male and female in the Mitsubishi became aggressive when asked for their details.

An argument broke out at the scene, before the couple jumped into the Magna and took off.

The other vehicle was extensively damaged and was towed from the vehicle.

The driver told police the man and woman changed seats following the accident and sped off without exchanging their details.

A responding police car from Grafton gave chase in an attempt to find the car on the Pacific Highway.

The vehicle was last seen at Dirty Creek Range.

A Woolgoolga-based police car lay in wait for the car at the northern entrance of the town, but it seems the car could have turned off the highway.

Police investigations are continuing.

The driver of the damaged vehicle was able to take down the registration of the Mitsubishi.
