Roads to be closed for safety

Road closures for safety reasons during the Byron Bay Triathlon will see traffic disrupted around Byron Bay on Saturday, so motorists are being urged to plan their trips accordingly.

The coast road between Midgen Flat Road and Ross Lane and Lennox Head will be closed to traffic from noon to 4pm.

Northbound traffic will be diverted up Ross Lane to the Pacific Highway, with southbound traffic from Suffolk Park diverted up Midgen Flat Road to the highway.

Southbound drivers from Byron Bay will be diverted up Bangalow Road (past the golf course) to the highway.

In town, Lawson Street between Middleton and Massinger Streets will be closed to traffic from 9 am to 4pm.

Organisers say motorists can expect delays between the Browning Street roundabout through to Suffolk Park.

They say the measures are essential to be able to conduct the event safely and they ultimately will determine the future of the event.
