WATCH: Usain Bolt runs into history at Rio Olympic Games

ATHLETICS: Usain Bolt has won his third straight 100m Olympic title.

The Jamaican superstar ran down American rival Justin Gatlin before pulling clear to stop the clock at 9.81 seconds.

Gatlin won silver in 9.89, with Canadian Andre de Grasse in the bronze medal position (9.91)

The gold in the 100m was Bolt's seventh Olympic gold and he will be going for two more in the 200m and the 4x100m relay.

Although he was delighted to have won, the Jamaican was still not satisfied.

"I'm really happy but I expected to go faster," Usain Bolt told the BBC.

"I'm just happy that I won and that's the key thing.

"After the semi-final I felt extremely good.

"I wanted to run faster but with the turnaround time, we normally have two hours, but we had one hour 20 minutes, it was challenging.

"This is what we train for.

"I told you guys I was going to do it. Stay tuned, two more to go.

"Somebody said I can become immortal.

"Two more medals to go and I can sign off. Immortal."
