Residents rally to save Bay from rampant development

BYRON Residents Group has set up an online petition calling on Premier Mike Baird to save Byron Bay from over development.

Residents Group member Cate Coorey said a petition was presented a year ago asking Ballina MP Don Page to stop the rezoning of West Byron for intensive development.

Its 3500 signatures elicited no action.

"We are hoping the premier might listen to the community and see that turning Byron into a traffic-choked mess is in no-one's interests except the developers who will profit," Ms Coorey said.

"Byron is the economic driver for Northern Rivers tourism. If we kill the golden goose of Byron, people will stop coming here, not to mention that it won't be a very nice place to live for residents."
