Renault RS 200 Clio to arrive in December from $28,790
SANTA will deliver a sack full of hot hatch goodness in December.
Renault has secured delivery of the Clio RS 200 EDC early, and it will be priced from an ultra-sharp $28,790 for the Sport chassis.
It's an aggressive move from the French carmaker, with pricing for the outgoing model sitting at $36,490.
That will put the Renault right in the mix of some esteemed company, including the recently released Ford Fiesta ST ($25,990), Peugeot 208 GTI ($29,990), VW Polo GTi ($29,190), Citroen DS3 DSport ($29,740), Skoda Fabia RS ($27,990) and the Abarth 500 Esse Esse $34,990).
The new Clio RS 200 EDC will be equipped with a EDC dual clutch transmission and a Renault Sport-developed 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
It pumps out 147kW (200hp, hence the RS 200 moniker) and comes up with 240Nm of torque - 25Nm more than before.
Renault Australia will bring both the Sport and Cup chassis combinations Down Under. This is the first time a Renault Sport Clio will be sold with a Sport chassis since 2010.
"The previous Clio RS 200 was broadly recognised as the icon in hot hatches, like its predecessors, with class-leading chassis dynamics and an uncanny ability to balance power to weight," Renault Australia managing director Justin Hocevar said.
"I'm excited to see that like all great icons, to remain as a contemporary, the new Clio RS 200 EDC has been reinvented to now marry in perfect harmony those icon dynamics with new levels of technical innovation. Delivering huge bang for buck and shaking up the competition.
"Australia is currently the second highest selling country in the world for the award-winning Megane RS 265 and we are confident that the new Clio RS 200 EDC will bring more people to the Renault Sport family than ever before.
"We have a highly competitive entry price for the new Clio RS and have already received strong demand for the latest Renault Sport vehicle in the Australia market."
Full Australian pricing and specification will be announced closer to the launch.
