South African ref Shaun Veldsman recovering from stabbing

SOUTH African referee Shaun Veldsman has a hole in his lung after being stabbed following the weekend's Super Rugby match between the Stormers and Blues in Cape Town.

The driver's window of his car was smashed and he was stabbed in what was believed to be an attempted carjacking. He managed to escape the attackers and was taken to Stellenbosch Medical Clinic where his condition was listed as stable.

Veldsman was scheduled to officiate as the TMO in Monday morning's Six Nations clash between Ireland and England in Dublin.

Meanwhile, Crusaders prop Owen Franks will miss Saturday's night's blockbuster against the Chiefs in Hamilton after copping a two-week suspension from last weekend's game against the Highlanders.
