Red Devils continue charge
The Byron Bay Red Devils continued their charge to the finals with a 44-24 win over Casino in the NRRRL competition on Sunday.
After skipping away to a 16-6 lead in the first half, a late resurgence by Casino saw them draw level and go to the break level at 16-16.
In the second half the Devils took control of the game early in the half with two quick tries and held out a late surge to run out comfortable winners.
Leon Kelly was voted Man of the Match, putting in a strong performance in both attack and defence.
Byron Bay will have to step it up when they host unbeaten competition leaders Grafton Ghosts on Sunday, but the return of several key players should boost their cause.
The Byron Bay Reggies also came up with the points, despite having no bench, with a four-try effort by Charles ‘Chucky’ King.
Mullumbimby Giants’ chances of reaching the semi-finals are getting slimmer after going down 18-8 to the Grafton Rhinos at Mullum.
To have any hope of getting to the semis, the Giants have to win their last remaining four games.
