Red the colour of defeat for Faiza on MasterChef

FAIZA Rehman's first wrong step in MasterChef proved to be her last.

The 24-year-old law graduate admits she made a "rookie mistake" serving up dry meatballs to the judges in last night's Italian pantry elimination challenge.

She had to whip up an Italian-inspired dish using only red ingredients.

"So far in the competition I've had nothing but praise, so to fall flat on my face on elimination day was pretty hard," she said.

The self-confessed perfectionist said the challenge was a "blur".

"I think I just blanked out that day," she said.

"The moment I finished my dish it all came to me when I saw it. I thought 'I wouldn't serve this to my mum or my sister'.

"I felt ashamed serving it to the judges. After that all I did was think about how I could have saved it."

But the former Young Muslim Australian of the Year nominee is busy moving forward with her career.

Rehman plans to integrate food into her work with youth through the Aspire to Inspire organization.

"I also wanted to start my own foundation in memory of my grandmother," she said.

"My aim is to help young kids realise the beauty in doing community work. Unfortunately a lot of kids don't realise the beauty of giving back.

"And what better way to bring people together than food?"

Even though the women outnumber the men nine to six, Rehman believes either Rishi or Lynton will win.

"Rishi is a gun. He's such a great guy, a true gentleman," she said.

"And I think Lynton is everybody's favourite. We became close friends; he's an incredible guy. He's like a sponge, he soaks everything up."

MasterChef continues tonight at 7.30pm on Ten.
