Record ‘shop local’ campaign

A record 10,087 entries were received in the 2009 Mullumbimby Shop Local campaign.

With 6800 entries received in 2008, the popular campaign has again proved extremely successful.

Run by the Byron Shire News and the Mullumbimby Chamber of Commerce, the campaign started in the first week of December and ran until Christmas Eve.

A total of 40 businesses participated in the promotion, which encouraged residents to shop locally and support local businesses.

Five lucky winners each received $1000 worth of shopping vouchers (10x$100) to be spent back at one of the 40 participating stores.

Byron Shire News media sales consultant Jo Coby said the shop local campaign had created a real buzz around Mullumbimby.

“I thoroughly enjoyed being part of this year’s campaign,” she said.

Advertising manager Alf Boston said the shop local campaign had been a wonderful success.

“I would like to thank the participating businesses as well as the chamber of commerce for their support and help,” he said.

“We now look forward to another successful campaign in 2010.”
