Record attempt takes off

THE Australian wingsuit record is set to be smashed at Coffs Harbour on Saturday as 16 people jump out of a perfectly good aircraft and Superman their way to the ground.

The attempt is the highlight event of a five-day skydiving meeting known as a boogie, which began yesterday.

Boogie organiser and wingsuit enthusiast Lawrence Hill said the current wingsuiting record, though unofficial, stood at 11.

Also joining in the record attempt are wingsuit innovators Jari Kuosma (Birdman founder) and Dr Glenn Singleman (world record-holder and winner of the Australian Geographic Society's Spirit of Adventure Award).

Lawrence said all are welcome to attend Saturday's open day at the Coffs City Skydivers, where live footage of the attempt can be seen.
