PREPARATIONS are under way for Ocean Shores Country Club Art Group's annual exhibition, which this year will see a record 150 pieces on display.

The event will be held in the club's main auditorium from April 3-5 and will showcase a large number of watercolours, oils, acrylics and pastels from amateur and professional artists.

Club member Fred Sparrow said although the group was small, it was highly regarded.

"Our reputation and highly organised exhibition draws exhibits from all over the northern districts of New South Wales and up to Queensland's Sunshine Coast," he said. About 75 artists will compete in a range of categories for $2300 in prizes.

"Prizes are generous because our purpose is to encourage and promote the industry and the appreciation of art," Mr Sparrow said.

Club representative Marilyn Mandigo said: "We are non-profit, so what we collect in entry fees this year goes toward the organising, advertising and prize money for the following year."

Artworks will be available to buy the following day.
