WITH more than 750 art lovers cramming into the Beach Hotel at Byron Bay, this week's inaugural RAW: Natural Born Artists exhibition has been hailed a success by organisers and artists alike.
Featuring 25 visual and performing artists from across the Shire the festival looks set to become a regular feature of the Byron art scape with the next event set down for September 9 at the same venue.
RAW is a US founded multi-faceted independent arts organisation that showcases independent artists from every genre in exhibitions mounted in 80 cities worldwide on a monthly basis.
RAW focuses on providing selected artists with the tools and resources needed to inspire and cultivate creativity.
"We were so blown away by the number of people who turned up," said RAW producer, Liesel Arden
"The artist sold a lot of work and got great feedback from the crowd.
"The audience were also surprised and impressed that they got to meet the artists face to face.
RAW does not take artist commission for works sold at the one night event.
However participating artists are asked to invite 20 people to the show.
"There is no other platform like this for artists, they put their heart and soul into it," said Ms Arden.
"It's a space where people can relax and become involved with the artist, so that buying an artwork becomes a very personal investment."
