Ravenshoe cafe manager dies following freak incident
THE manager of Serves You Right Cafe in far north Queensland has died in a Brisbane hospital this morning, following the fiery explosion that destroyed the dining spot on Tuesday.
Nicole Nyholt, 37, is also the daughter of the cafe's owners.
She was pronounced dead at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital just before 5am on Friday.
Ms Nyholt had been in the hospital's intensive care burns unit since the explosion.
The mother-of-two was managing the cafe while her parents enjoyed an overseas holiday.
Seven people are still in a critical condition in hospitals throughout the state as a result of the explosion.
The emergency airlifting of burns victims to Brisbane after the explosion was the largest aeromedical operation of its kind in Queensland's history, according to Queensland Health.
The Cairns Forensic Crash Unit is continuing its investigations into the incident which occurred when a utility travelling on Grigg Street left the roadway and struck a gas cylinder, causing the gas to explode around 12pm.
There were 20 people inside the cafe at the time.
The ute driver, a 60-year-old Ravenshoe man, along with 19 people at the scene were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Officers are continuing to investigate whether the man suffered a medical condition prior to the crash.
