Byron bay Rams continue their winning ways
IN A WEEKEND that saw wins for most of Byron's competitive grades, the Northern Hotel Rams Premiers and Reserves confirmed their dominance of the FFNC league with emphatic wins of over up-and-comers Alstonville.
Despite a few conspicuous absences and an early goal to Villa against the run of play, the Rams Reserves completely overwhelmed their challengers, hammering the Alstonville defence for most of the match.
The 3-1 win, with a goal to Will Ennis and two to Conor Cannon hardly did justice to the Byron team's performance.
Another four or five goals, including the three that were disallowed, would have been closer to the mark.
In the top-squad match, the Premier Rams went on the offensive from the opening whistle, carving up the Villa defence and repelling any counter attacks with an impenetrable midfield and back line.
Byron stalwart Sam Owens opened the scoring for the Rams and Captain Shaun Packham drove home a rebound to cap his outstanding performance in defence.
Towering speedsters Tyson Kaye and James Tomlinson wrought hack among the Alstonville defenders and forced some spectacular saves from the visitors' keeper.
Tireless midfielder Ian Lowe pounced on another rebound to take the score to 3-0 before Kaye sealed the win with goal number 4.
The Premiers now enjoy a five point lead at the top of the table going into this week's Sunday home derby against the winless Bangalow side. Reserves kick off at 12.30 and the Prems at 2.30.
Byron's grade15 Wildcats got the weekend off to a smashing start with a 6-1 win over Italo Stars on Friday night.
The Women's Wildcats 4ths followed up with a 6-0 win over Dunoon on Sunday and the 2nds battled out a tough 2-0 victory over Tintenbar.
