Rally to reclaim foreshore

A rally to ‘reclaim the foreshore’ at Brunswick Heads and to protest against the Land & Property Management’s (LPMA) plans of management for the town’s caravan parks will be held on Sunday (September 19) at 10.30am at Terrace Park.

Bruns Foreshore Protection Group representative Michele Grant said the rally was being organised by local residents to ‘ground-truth’ the documents and highlight the problems with the Land Department’s plans for Brunswick Heads’ Crown reserve parks.

She said she strongly objected to ‘the non-transparent, non-inclusive process, and the back-room negotiations’ currently under way between the Byron Shire Council and LPMA regarding a ‘land swap’ of Brunswick Heads Road Reserves.

“Particularly when the people negotiating on behalf of the community are not very familiar with the actual roads under discussion and the maps do not provide a clear and accurate depiction of the sites,” Ms Grant said.

To join the rally, meet at the pedestrian bridge next to Terrace Park at 10.30am.

The Brunswick Heads Crown Reserve Caravan Park plans of management are on public exhibition until September 24 and are on display at the Visitor Centre in Park Street, Brunswick Heads.
