Quota members celebrate 90 years

Quota is an international women's organisation founded in 1919 to 'unfold the joys of true friendship' and 'open minds to a better understanding of service' and it is a group known especially for its service to hearing- and speech-impaired children.

Brunswick Valley Quotarians celebrated the big 90th birthday recently, with a beautiful cake taking pride of place on the table.

President Betty Byrnes gave representatives from pre-schools and play groups in the Byron Shire a bundle of story books for their libraries in recognition of “Quota Cares” month, with all respondents noting the importance of reading to children in their speech of thanks.

Colleen Mudge gave a short presentation on the history of Quota International and of the Brunswick Valley Club, one that has undertaken many successful projects both locally and overseas in its 49 years of operation.

“Quota gives women the opportunity of friendship and fellowship,” she said, “while working for the betterment of our valley.”

Lately Quota members have been busy volunteering their time to sell raffle tickets for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal being conducted by the Brunswick Hotel.
