Quirky baby names get a royal canning in Victoria

TOOWOOMBA parents are no strangers to the unique baby name game and have been turning to popular television shows like Game of Thrones or historical persons for inspiration.

While here it's okay to name your child after the Khaleesi (which means Queen in the fictional Game of Thrones Dothraki language and is used by the character Daenerys Stormborn) or something old-fashioned like Francis Xavier Hay like Toowoomba mum Maria Hay chose, unique names are being banned in Victoria.

Names like Princess Diana, Fireman Sam, Honest Mary, Anarchy, Wonderful, Beautiful and Lord are among the rejected by Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria.

The Births, Deaths and Marriages Act deems as prohibited names which are obscene or offensive, are too long or contain symbols such as exclamation or question marks.
