Punters back Labor for win

A $200,000 bet on Labor to win the 21 August election has plunged the head-to-head market even further.

Sportingbet CEO Michael Sullivan said that the bet, placed yesterday morning, was easily the biggest plunge in the campaign so far, going behind Labor at $1.50.

“The tide has certainly turned for Labor in the minds of punters, with one confident individual standing to collect $300,000 after placing $200,000 on Gillard and her team ,” said Mr Sullivan.

“Punters very rarely get it wrong when they bet like this and I would suggest Ms Gillard should be looking to get removalists booked so she can finally move into the Lodge,” he said.

“Over the last fortnight we couldn’t find anyone to back the government, but they seem to have stemmed the bleeding in their campaign and punters have responded in astounding fashion,”

“Yesterday’s $200,000 plunge follows a further $100,000 that went behind them yesterday in a series of big bets.”

Today a bet on Labor is paying $1.42 and a bet on the Coalition is paying $2.75.
