Woman charged for hitting man with thong at the races

A BRIBIE Island woman has pleaded guilty to a public nuisance charge after police alleged she hit a male over the head with her thong.

Lisabeth Anne Tomasiello appeared in Caboolture Magistrates Court last Thursday over the incident that occurred on Melbourne Cup day this year.

Police alleged that at 5.40pm on November 3, Tomasiello was attending Melbourne Cup celebrations at the Bribie Island Bowls Club in Bongaree.

It was reported that Tomasiello approached a fellow male member of the club who was known to her and the pair began arguing.

Tomasiello then proceeded to remove the thong she was wearing on her foot and repeatedly hit the man over the head with it.

A staff member of the club intervened and stood between the two members, causing Tomasiello to drop her thong.

She then started hitting the man with her hands. Tomasiello was escorted off the premises by staff as she continued to yell obscenities and call the man a names.

At 5.45pm police finally found Tomasiello rummaging through bins on Welsby Pde. Tomasiello's lawyer said her client was provoked into the confrontation after the man made inappropriate gestures and called her names.

She asked that Tomasiello be placed on good behaviour but after her criminal history was tendered Magistrate Hillan decided against that.

"I'm not buying it with these types of offences," he said.

Tomasiello was convicted and fined $500 for the incident.
