Pub goes back to basics with no pokies

THE new owners of the Stockyard Hotel will be taking it back to basics when they open for business in a couple of weeks.

George and Ann Smith from Inglewood saw an opportunity within the Stockyard and are grabbing it with both hands.

"We saw an expression of interest in the paper and submitted one," Mr Smith said.

"They took our offer so here we are.

"We are completely renovating and refurbishing the entire place."

Mr Smith said he wanted to offer Warwick something they were missing out on.

"There will be no gambling in my pub, just meals and drinks.

"We will have a games room full of pinball machines, dart boards and music.

"There will be two smokers' areas and we will be tripling the size of the beer garden."

The Smiths own the pub in Inglewood, along with the motel, restaurant and an award-winning roadhouse.

"We've been in the business about eight years so we know a bit about what people like," he said.

"We've got big plans for live Sunday afternoon music and an outdoor bar and barbecue.

"We're doing up the dining room so people can come here and sit away from the bar and enjoy a good-priced meal as well."

Mr Smith is a builder and moved after many years working in Brisbane.

"We are doing up the whole building, people won't recognise it," he said.

"No more disgusting brown on the walls, we will brighten the whole joint up.

"It's going to become a family friendly place."
