NEW South Wales drivers will be able to flash nightclub bouncers a copy of their licence on smartphones under a Baird government.

The Coalition plans to roll out the scheme for all types of government-issued licences in the next four years.

"We will target digital formats for a range of common licences, including NSW photo cards, boat and fishing licences, and eventually drivers' licences," Finance and Services Minister Dominic Perrottet said.

People will still be able to choose whether to have a physical licence.
