Prisoners executed in Jordan in retaliation to IS video

THERE are reports Jordan has executed two prisoners in response to a video in which Islamic State militants allegedly burn a Jordanian fighter pilot alive in a cage.

The video, published through official ISIS media channels, shows a man in an orange jumpsuit standing upright in a cage. A burning torch is then held to a trail of oil leading to the cage before the man appears to be set alight.

A spokesman for the Jordan army has confirmed the death of Muath al-Kasaesbeh and said that the 26-year-old pilot was killed a month ago.

The Jordanian government has vowed a "swift" response with AFP quoting Government spokesman Mohammed Al-Momani as saying two prisoners, Sajida al-Rishdawi and Ziad al-Karbouli, were executed early on Wednesday morning.

Al-Rishawi has been on death row for her role in a triple hotel bombing in the Jordanian capital Amman in 2005 that killed dozens.

Thousands of people have gathered on the streets in Jordan to demand blood.
