Possible gang link in baby kidnapping

A three-month-old baby is believed to have been kidnapped in Hamilton.

It is understood there are gang connections in the kidnap, Fairfax reported.

Police are believed to have searched a vacant house on Breckons Ave, according to reports.

Armed police in the area are stopping traffic and pedestrians.

At least 10 plain clothes police officers and members of the Armed Offenders Squad could be seen gathered at the entrance to Breckons Ave, Fairfax reported.

A resident said he heard police banging down a door across the road about 7am.

He said they heard that a baby had been kidnapped.

The house that police attended appears to be a small unit down a right of way.

The baby did not live at that address.

Part of Rotokauri Rd has been locked down by police and an ambulance is on site.

Another person nearby wrote on social media: "Top of Breckons to Odlin blocked off, pigs swarming everywhere.. poor little pepe. What sick c**ts wants to kidnap a baby.

"Won't be that hard to find him or her, the baby should be screaming soon if the still in the area."

Detectives remain at the scene while two people have been taken away for questioning at a neighbouring house.

Police have released a statement saying they are "not in a position to comment on the Police presence in the area at this time".

More information will be released around midday.
