Fed up, bullied chicken runs away from home

IT is a simple question with an even simpler answer.

But what if the chicken didn't cross the road simply to get to the other side?

What if said chicken was in fact a newbie to the coop who had been bullied by her fellow hens and, in a moment of sheer desperation, flew over the fence?

This is the true story of Spikey, the runaway hen who caused a flap at Adentica Family Dentists in Caloundra when she had a run-in with an employee on the practice's deck.

HOW THIS CHICKEN ENDED UP AT THE DENTIST

The Daily told her tale on Thursday, and put out a call for Spikey's owners to come forward.

It turned out the answer to everyone's question was "one".

Spikey, whose real name is actually Rhonda, crossed only one road before she became miserably lost.

On Friday Rhonda's owners, who live on the same street as the dental practice, collected their wayward hen and took her safely home.

Practice owner Sara Dent said Rhonda had been living with her owners for only a day before she escaped.

"As she had only been there for a day or so she didn't know how to get home," Sara said.

"The other chickens were picking on her so she flew over the fence."
