Police stand-off ends peacefully

A STAND-OFF between police and a mentally ill man threatening to harm himself at a rural property at Main Arm was resolved peacefully last night.

It was understood the man's parents were forced to flee the home about 3pm yesterday after the man armed himself with a knife and began making threats.

Police were called in last night and were locked in a stand-off with the man, who was in the house alone.

Trained negotiators attended the scene and the stand-off was resolved peacefully at about 8.30pm.

Police said the man was taken into custody and was likely to be medically assessed.
