Police seize over $1.5million worth of cannabis

UPDATED: A MAJOR drug squad investigation is underway on the NSW mid north coast following raids on a suspected supply house.

Drugs worth more than $1.5million were uncovered at a home at Goodwood Island, near Yamba on Tuesday.

Police say the commercial level haul included 777 cannabis plants, 2.2kg of cannabis leaf, seeds, hydroponic gear and cash.

A sophisticated hydroponic set up was discovered in the bathroom and hundreds more plants were found growing in the backyard.

The drugs have been seized for examination before they are destroyed at Thora, south of Coffs Harbour.

Police believe they have interrupted a major supply chain.Investigations are continuing.

EARLIER: Police have seized a commercial quantity of drugs near worth over $1.5million.

About 6.30pm yesterday police executed a search warrant on a house Goodwood Island Road at Goodwood Island near Iluka.

They seized 777 cannabis plants, 2.2kg of cannabis leaf, large amount of cannabis seeds, hydroponic equipment and cash.

The hydroponic set-up was located in the bathroom with 54 of the cannabis plants, 720 cannabis plants were located growing in the backyard and three on a top floor veranda.

Inquiries are continuing in relation to the seizure.
