TWEED detectives and a police helicopter are scouring Banora Point for a fugitive at large.

Acting Sergeant Bruce Jones said police had narrowed in on two fugitives wanted for serious offences in Sydney and the Gold Coast.

He said police had managed to apprehend one but the other had managed to get away.

Part of Flame Tree Park has been closed off as the search continues.

It is unclear if the man is armed or unarmed.
