Police probe uncovers new underbelly of Griffith

Trevor Veale

A COUNTRY town famous for its underworld roots is back in the spotlight after a police investigation into an alleged murder plot in the NSW Riverina uncovered bikie links, guns, drugs and dirty money.

Detectives believe a number of accused criminals, with links to the Vikings bikie gang, have been planning the contract killing of two men at Griffith.

During a series of raids this week, police allegedly discovered a haul of guns including three rifles, a shotgun and ammunition.

At the Vikings clubhouse, they allegedly seized amphetamines and more than $1000 in cash.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested and charged with possession forearms, ammunition and prohibited weapons and drugs.

Investigations into the alleged murder plot are continuing.
