Police hunt pair after officers almost run over

POLICE are on the hunt for two men who forced a policeman to cling to a car door to avoid being run over in Maroochydore.

The two men were approached by police at about 3.45pm on Thursday in the Woolworths carpark at Sunshine Plaza after officers suspected the duo was affected by drugs.

As the duo hopped into a silver Holden Commodore to speed off, one officer was forced to grab the open passenger door and walk backwards with the door, to avoid being run down. When the driver stepped on the accelerator, the other officer had to take evasive action to also avoid being struck.

Acting Senior Sergeant Kim Cavell said while the officer's injuries were minor, the actions of the alleged offenders was highly concerning. "It is very concerning, the police officer's just doing his job. You don't expect him to be subject to someone running him over or trying to," she said.

After the near misses, the offend-ers took off on a loop around nearby radio stations, making their way south with police pursuing without success for 60km towards Caboolture. They were last seen taking the Pumicestone Road exit.

The driver (180cm) was described as mid-20s, thinly built with dark hair and having a tattoo on the right side of his neck. His passenger was described as being early 20s, 175cm tall, with brown hair and wearing a white Lonsdale muscle shirt.
