Police escort logging trucks from Whian Whian

TRUCKS removing logs from private property at Whian Whian today are being escorted from the site by police from the Operational Support Group.

Richmond Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Mick Dempsey said the logging trucks were accessing the logging site to remove about 100 logs that had been cut down.

While he would not comment on police numbers, Insp Dempsey said there were a number of police cars at the Whian Whian site.

"Police are receiving assistance from officers from the Northern Region Operational Support Group," he said.

Over the past few weeks police have arrested three protesters at the site, including a man last Thursday who had climbed up on a man made tepee.

Police are encouraging all protesters to behave responsibly.

"People are there waving banners and making a noise and most of them have been compliant," Insp Dempsey said.
