Police dismantle Coast’s ice syndicate after 150 arrests

A SPATE of arrests and a $1.5 million haul has all-but obliterated the Sunshine Coast's drug supply chain.

Detectives say they have dismantled the intricate methylamphetamine (ice) syndicate which infiltrated south-east Queensland for the past two years.

The multi-agency operation, which kicked off last October, came to a head on Wednesday when detectives conducted the last of their raids, arresting a further 58 people on more than 300 charges.

In total, police nabbed 150 people and seized more than 2.5kg of ice during Operation Mike Tyras.

The crackdown was touted as the largest drug bust of its kind on the Coast in 10 years.

Detective Sergeant Dave Harbison said he was confident police had cracked the syndicate from the highest level manufacturers to the street level distributors.

"This operation was more aimed at the upper echelon of this syndicate, we were not looking at the bottom level feeders as much," Det Sgt Harbison said.

"This was not aimed at the street level users but they will always be some who are caught up in this as well.

"We aimed this operation towards the trafficker and supplier, which will naturally have a flow-on effect.

"We know already this has had a massive impact on the amount of drug product available on the Coast and that will have far-reaching impacts across south-east Queensland."

Police claim to have tracked down the three kingpins of the operation after arresting three men during a raid at a Mt Gravatt home on June 29.
