Phatapillars are top buskers

BLUESFEST Busking Competition winners 2014, Eddie Boyd and the Phatapillars, had been sleeping in their car during their latest stay in Byron Bay.

Yesterday they experienced the stark contrasts of waking up in their car and later on walking into the Bluesfest Artist's Hangout area, where they were greeted by a red carpet covered in flower petals, air-conditioning, full catering, and music royalty for company.

From the Blue Mountains, the musicians performed for the first time at the Bluesfest Busking Competition 2012.

Hours after winning the competition, Eddie Boyd was still processing the emotions produced by their win.

"We didn't know what to think. We didn't want to be too excited about being in the final. You never know what the judges were looking for," said Eddie Boyd.

The band played yesterday at Delta stage.

The band has no music releases yet but plenty of material for a future album.

As many artists do before their big break, all three have jobs in Sydney and the Blue Mountains, where they live.

The winners of the Bluesfest Grommet Busking Competition were local teenage musos CRAIG (3 members), formed by Newrybar's Louie Swain and Byron Bay's Patrick Etherington and Noah Hill.

The 17-year olds also perform in other bands such as Tora and Louie and Patrick.
