Pennant team enters state finals
The Ocean Shores Bowling Club’s women’s grade 3 pennants team has won its way to the state finals on the Central Coast.
The Ocean Shores women were convincing winners in Grade 3 on 28 points from a possible 30 at the play off for pennants at Cudgen.
Runners-up were Port Macquarie City on 18½ points. Other teams playing in this grade were Evans Head, Old Bar Beach, Iluka, Stuarts Point and Park Beach.
The Ocean Shores team is the first Tweed Byron team in recent times to win the group play-off and qualify for the state finals.
Ocean Shores is only a small club and has done extremely well to achieve these results.
The final will be played at The Entrance, from August 15-19.
The side consisted of two teams: Thelma Warr, Joan Bartlett, Lyn McGowran, Barbara Sprengel (skip); Joymarie Quirke, Florence Crowder, Maureen James, Margaret McConville (skip). Manager Glenys Johnston encouraged the girls all the way and managed to get the best out of the side in all games.
