Penelope cruises into Whitsundays

SPANISH actress and model Penelope Cruz is rumoured to be staying on Hayman Island this week.

While staff and management at the One&Only Hayman Island Resort are unable to confirm their guests' identities for privacy reasons, it's believed the star flew into the Whitsundays on Sunday.

Cruz is well known for her roles in the movies Belle Epoque, Blow and Vanilla Sky. It was on the set of Vanilla Sky that she met Tom Cruise, with whom she had a relationship for three years.

In 2008, Penelope Cruz became the first Spanish actress in history to receive an Academy Award. This was for best supporting actress in the Woody Allen film Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

She also played the role of Angelica in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film, On Stranger Tides.
