Pedestrian safety on agenda
Byron Council is backing plans to improve pedestrian safety in Jonson Street, Byron Bay.
It is supporting a recommendation from the Local Traffic Committee to move the long-standing existing pedestrian crossing between Lawson and Byron Streets to a spot adjacent to the Great Northern Hotel near the Byron Street intersection.
According to the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA), there have been a high number of pedestrian incidents and injuries at or near the crossing.
The council last week voted to seek funding from the RTA for the works and to also call for submissions from residents on the proposals.
