Package which caused Police evacuation found to be no threat

5.30 PM

Queensland Police Headquarters in Brisbane City was this afternoon evacuated after a suspicious item was brought to the front counter.

The item had been located by a council worker attached to a pole in a park at Milton around 1pm.

The worker subsequently delivered the item, described as a black plastic box, to police at Roma Street around 2.10pm.

Given the appearance of the item it was deemed suspicious with the building partially evacuated and remaining staff moved to other areas in the building.

The section of Roma Street directly outside the building was closed with traffic diverted.

Specialist police were called in and conducted an examination of the item and it was determined it did not contain any explosive substances and did not constitute a threat.

The road was reopened and staff were allowed to re-enter the building.

Investigations into the incident continue.

Police are asking members of the public if they find any item that they believe to be suspicious not to move the item but to immediately contact police.
