Pacific Hwy closed in both directions

11.30AM:

The Pacific Highway is now open in both directions 10km north of the Iluka turn-off following a serious car and truck accident north of Maclean. 

Traffic is still heavy in the area but should start to clear now all lanes are open.

 

 

9.00AM: A man has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition following a head-on collision near Iluka this morning.

About 5am, emergency services were called to the Pacific Hwy, about 10kms north of Iluka, after a head-on collision between a car and a truck.

A man was trapped inside his car for about an hour before being freed and airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.

The truck driver, who was not injured in the collision, was taken to Maclean Hospital where he underwent mandatory blood and urine tests.

Motorists are being warned to expect traffic delays through the area while emergency services remain on scene.

Southbound lanes of the highway remain closed while northbound lanes are operating under a contra-flow.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing.

8.30AM: Alternating stop/slow traffic conditions are now in place on the Pacific Hwy 10km north of the Iluka turn-off due to a serious car and truck accident north of Maclean.

Emergency services and traffic crews remain on site.

Traffic is currently queued at least 5km in both directions.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow plenty of additional travel time.

6.45AM: The Pacific Hwy is closed in both directions 10km north of the Iluka turn-off due to a serious car and truck accident in Maclean.

A rescue helicopter has landed and emergency services are attending to an injured occupant.

Motorists are being parked at the incident scene and should stay away.

Summerland Way can be used as an alternative which will add approximately 45 minutes extra travel time.
