P. DIDDY allegedly turned down 'American Idol' because he didn't want to work with Jennifer Lopez.

The 43-year-old rapper, who dated the 'Dance Again' hitmaker for three years until 2001, reportedly rejected an offer to appear on the judging panel for the upcoming 13th season of the show as he feels things between them are still awkward.

A source told UsMagazine.com that the music mogul, whose real name is Sean Combs, was in contention for the third and final judging spot but passed because of Jennifer, 44, and her manager Benny Medina, who also previously managed him in the past.

The insider said he "felt it was a 'her or me' situation" and ultimately decided he couldn't work in such close quarters with his ex-girlfriend.

Jennifer's boyfriend of almost two years Casper Smart, 25, accidentally confirmed that she is returning to the FOX series last week, as he thought an official announcement had already been made.

It's believed the star, who was a judge in 2010 and 2011, approached the network about returning to the show and secured a $15 million contract as she wants to be based in Los Angeles so she can have a settled life with her five-year-old twins, Max and Emme, as they prepare to go to start school.

A source previously said: "Returning to 'American Idol' makes sense for Jennifer this season, as the show's schedule will allow her to focus on new film and TV projects" at the same time. And, of course, her twins are starting school this year and she will have time for her family."

Keith Urban has also signed on as a judge again and music producer Dr. Luke, who has worked with Britney Spears and Katy Perry, is reportedly in serious talks to be the third judge.
