Owner John is riding success

JOHN Davis has worked for McDonald's for so long he can remember when the famous fast-food outlet sold fried chicken pieces.

It is 34 years to be exact, and in that time Mr Davis has moved through the corporation from serving fries to owning three outlets at Tweed Heads, Tweed Heads South and Chinderah.

Now, as McDonald's celebrates 40 years of golden arches in Australia, Mr Davis has reflected on a long and full career.

“I was 15 at the time when I got my first job in Toowoomba,” Mr Davis said.

“We've done some amazing things in the time since then.

“Most of us have a fond McDonald's memory, whether it's tucking into a burger and hot fresh fries on the annual family road trip, McDonald's birthday parties, or reciting the Big Mac chant.

“I encourage Tweed Heads residents to join me and my crew in the celebrations, rekindle those memories and remember all the fun and nostalgia that's associated with Maccas.”

Mr Davis said he was proud of the commitment of each and every McDonald's store to the community, providing plenty of jobs and valuable training and experience.

“In just the three stores here I hire 240 management and crew staff with an annual payroll over $3.5 million,” Mr Davis said. “They go through certificate programs and have a very systemised and regimented training program.”

He said he had found his home here on the Tweed and was proud to say his family was very much involved in the running of the business.

“I'm here for the long haul; it's lovely from a family point of view to be able to stay here,” he said.

“My son is 19 and he's in management here at the South Tweed store and my daughter does all my accounts.”

To celebrate 40 years McDonald's has brought back some menu favourites including Shaker Fries and the McFeast burger.
